Chandigarh, September 29: The Finance and Planning Minister Punjab, Dr. Upinderjit Kaur today expressed her deep sense of shock and sorrow over the sad demise of legendary Punjabi playwright Mr. Gursharan Singh, who was known to have developed the character of Bhai Manna Singh through his plays.In a condolence message, Dr. Upinderjit Kaur condoled that in the death of Gursharan Singh, Punjab as well as theater world has lost a distinguished playwright whose plays gave it a new identity in the field of Punjabi theater and a social purpose. She described Gursharan Singh a revolutionary, a missionary and a socialist with a constructive approach and vision, who has left an elegant mark on the world around him. “He was indeed a great inspiring playwright with good heart”, she said. Regarding Gursharan Singh as an “institution” in himself for his dedication and love of plays, she said that he been instrumental in bringing Punjabi folk and rural theatre to the forefront. She further added that the demise of this noted playwright was an irreparable loss to the State. “He would be ever remembered by one and all in recognising his immense talents as a dramatist, humanist, and above all as a fine human being”, she said.The Minister expressed heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to give strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the departed soul.
