People must benefit form government programmes

SHIMLA, 3rd September, 2010(Bharatsandesh news) Shri Ram Subhag Singh, Secretary, Agriculture has underlined the need for extensive publicity of various schemes launched in agriculture, horticulture,  animal husbandry and other vital sectors by the State Government during last 30 months through Doordarshan, AIR and print media so that people are benefited from them at large. He was presiding over a State level Monitoring Committee for Monitoring the implementation of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, Mass Media Support to Agriculture Extension and Kisan Call Centre here today.

It was decided in the meeting that department of agriculture would organize three crops seminars during current financial year, one in the month of October/November, second in the month of December/January and third in the month of March in which experts, specialists and progressive farmers would participate.

He said that State Government had launched various ambitious schemes for the benefit of farmers and  fruit growers such as Rs. 353 crore Pandit Deen Dayal Kisan Baagwan Samridhi Yojna, Rs. 300 crore Doodh Ganga Yojna and Rs. 85 crore Apple Rejuvenation Scheme so that with extensive publicity and extension programmes farmers and fruit growers would benefit from them.

He said that efforts would also be made to strengthen the connectivity of Kisan Call Centres so that farmers get quick response to their queries. He also stressed for holding frequent meetings of agriculture Programme Coordination Committees so as to review the progress. He said that All India Radio, Hamirpur and Dharamsala besides AIR Shimla would also be involved in the extensive publicity of government programmes. He said that from Doordarshan Kendra Shimla also various programmes for the benefit of farmers would also be telecasted.

Kowledge Economy today

Chandigarh- “It is a knowledge economy today”, were the opening remarks of Prof. Beena Shah,  Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities at a press conference the evening before the commencement of a two-day North Zone Vice-Chancellors’ Conference hosted by Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) at the PU campus.

With the target of reaching 30% enrolment in higher education from the current 12.5%, Prof Shah said that AIU was completely geared for the challenge and the Conference was a means to brainstorm on the entire modalities of delivering on higher education as per the needs of the country. Issues pertaining to greater interaction between universities, signing of MOUs, streamlining of the Open Credit system to include credit transfers, correction of eschewed literacy rates that are currently seeing variations of gender, caste and the urban-rural divide, revamping of distance education, promoting the Smart Classroom concept through EDUSAT - all would form part of the discussions. The discussions themselves would invite opinions of all stakeholders and not just the Vice Chancellors alone.

Free Eye Check Up Camp

Amritsar- 4th Sept 2010: A Free Eye-Check Up Camp was organized by NSS. and Youth Red cross Unit  of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar on Sept. 3, 2010 in collaboration with Vision Express.

              The camp was inaugurated by the college Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra.  The camp provided free eye-check up facility to the students and staff of the college.  “The college has been organizing  such camps, from time to time, in order to create an awareness among the masses about various health issues. The NSS. and Red Cross Unit of the college  have undertaken several activities to serve the people, this camp too is such an endeavour,” said the Principal.

              According to Mr. Sunil Davesar of Vision Express, “ The focus of this camp was to make people aware of the different defects of the  eye and also suggest  them with solutions for the same.”  Mrs. Uma Chugh, Mrs. Jaspreet Bedi, Ms. Harpreet Dusanjh and  Mrs. Sapna Gupta were among the teachers who helped to organize the camp.
