CHANDIGARH: October 23(Bharatsandesh news):  A two-day National Conference on Computing, Communication and Control (3C-2009) being organized by University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET) was inaugurated at Panjab University by the Chief Guest, Prof. HK Verma, Deputy Director, IIT Roorkee. He emphasised that growth of institute depends on students, faculty and infrastructure for research and development. He appreciated the efforts of faculty and students of UIET in organising the conferences, as such activities provide a platform for networking among academia and industry. In his speech he highlighted the application and integration of the 3C’s i.e. computing, communication and control specifically for SCADA applications. The technocrats from across the country are participating in this conference.

 The participants and delegates were addressed by the founder director of UIET, Prof. B.S. Sohi. He threw light on the journey of UIET since its inception and its networking with various national universities. The convener of the conference and Director of UIET, Prof Renu Vig introduced the theme of the conference. Prof. Vig emphasised that future engineers need to cope with cross disciplinary applications and rapidly changing technology. The three technologies are interlinked and their integration is essential for development of many products.  The Key note addresses were presented by Prof. D.T. Shahani, IIT Delhi and Sh V.K Katyal, Senior DGM, Bharat Electronics Limited. Prof. Shahani discussed the development in networking of control systems and advancements from VLSI to PLCs. Sh. Katyal presented the importance of convergence of the three technologies. The session on computing was chaired by Dr. Maninder Singh from Thapar University who gave a talk on network security. Invited talks was given by Sh. Rajinder Kalra, Infosys Technologies. Papers were presented on ANNs, Wireless Mesh Network, Image Enhancements, XML, etc. Later during the evening a poster session was held at UIET, south campus, PU.
